Getting to know them

Breeds



Horses have many different breeds and here are some famous breeds, starting off with:
   

     The Mustang

The name mustang comes from the world mesteno, which means wild or stray. The mustang would be fully grown at the age of 4-7. It has very strong legs and hooves compare to the other horses. This is because it has to be able to canter without shoes on any kind of surface.





     Cayuse Indian pony 

This pony has a very fuzzy history about it but it is believed to be from France. The pony is small and stocky with high wither and very a long cannon bone. It is mostly used for children's riding because it is small and easy to ride.   



     Florida Cracker Horse 

The Florida Cracker Horse has lots of names such as the Florida horse, Woods Pony, Indian Pony, Prairie Pony or the Florida Cow Pony. This pony is very rare breed, it is very small, only 13.5 hands high. It has an elegant head with lively eyes. The back is short making it small, but this is a very alert horse with  so much power. These horses come in very unique colors, but are mostly solid or gray.




     American Quarter Horse


The Quarter horse is named after a competition when it ran a quarter mile. The Quarter horse has short head broad head. This horse has a powerful bow that gives the saddle a good base. It has a short back and have a nice disposition. This breed is very intelligent, which helps it learn faster than other breeds. 




     Appaloosa 

This breed has a very good character and has strong hind quarter and good legs. It has hard hooves and an elegant head that makes the Appaloosa the Nez Perce wanted. The most common color for this breed is a dark body with white spots, but there are many more patterns.
